Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande plans to push a motion in the monsoon session of State Legislature. Target: stand-up comedians. She accused them of pushing boundaries under cover of free expression,saying they need lesson. This follows uproar over comedian Pranit More and web developer Himanshu Jangra,who were criticized for jokes allegedly promoting coercion against women.
"A lesson should be taught to such stand-up comedians. They are crossing all limits and making fun of anyone," Kayande said. She stressed that performers often hide behind free speech to say anything they want,which she argues is not acceptable in Maharashtra.
Her comments align with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,who warned comedians to keep dignity intact . Kayande pointed to parody song by Kunal Kamra as example of problematic acts.
