Leadership of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) stepped down after a stormy meeting filled with accusations and infighting. Shweta Menon, head of 17-member executive committee, quit Sunday,June 21, 2026 . She cited efforts to oust her as reason.

Resignation followed a no-confidence motion against Menon’s team. Critics said leadership ignored daily operations and unresolved disputes. “I have also come to believe, as some women stated earlier, there is an attempt to push the association into hands of some accused individuals,” Menon said, voicing frustration with internal power plays.

Baburaj countered Menon’s claims, arguing outgoing committee used women's issues as a smokescreen while ignoring female members' real problems . This exchange laid bare AMMA's deep rifts .
