Internal strife within Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) intensified as actor Shwetha Menon vowed to stay on as president, even after announcing her resignation following a heated general body meeting on June 21 . Menon challenged the legitimacy of an ad-hoc committee formed during that meeting, saying it breaks the association's by-laws.

On July 2,2026,at meeting led by actor and MLA Ramesh Pisharody, the ad-hoc committee criticized Menon for the ongoing deadlock . Pisharody pointed out that Menon's panel hadn't officially resigned, although they were criticized for allegedly ignoring organization's daily operations and not resolving internal disputes.

Menon had said she'd quit both her position and association as a protest against a no-confidence motion started by some members. But she's now reversed that decision. Claims her panel still has authority to govern until next election, per association rules.

Thursday night,on social media, she alleged a faction of 10 to 15 members came to the general body meeting with a plan to oust her leadership. Menon accused them of handing out a pre-printed resolution full of accusations against her committee. Resolution was presented but didn't get two-thirds majority from 243 attendees,so legally void, she argued.

Menon said she's determined to fight against what she called the schemes of vested interests aiming to control AMMA. “I will not step down without proving my innocence,” she declared. Will this battle for control continue to divide AMMA…?
