HyderabadIn a first in Telangana, the State government has decided to introduce a breakfast scheme for Intermediate students.Nutritious food comprising dosas, idlis, millets, and pooris, would be provided to students from the coming academic year.Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is expected to formally launch the breakfast scheme on June 22. Close to two lakh students will benefit from the initiative, estimated to cost ₹80 crore a year.
Government has also decided to provide nutritious lunch to Inter students at an estimated ₹100 crore a year. This is yet another unique initiative by the Telangana Government, making Telangana the first State to offer both breakfast and lunch to students in Inter level. The initiative, a brainchild of the Chief Minister, is contemplated as majority of junior colleges are located in mandal headquarters, where the students are mostly from remote areas and tribal hamlets. As a result, most students, particularly those hailing from marginalised sections, discontinue studies after school. The menu for the breakfast and lunch scheme has been finalised in line with the recommendations of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN).
