HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University is shaking things up with new leadership for three departments: Music and Performing Arts,Visual Arts and Design, and Communication and Media Studies. These moves aim to boost academics and deepen community ties .

Dr. Paul Buyer takes charge of Music and Performing Arts,leaving Clemson University where he was percussion director and acting associate dean. Buyer's got a Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in percussion from University of Arizona, plus a Bachelor's in music education from Ball State. He's also a known speaker and author in music education.

“Dr. Paul Buyer joins us at time of incredible trajectory, bringing a distinguished record of leadership from Clemson University,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Eric Skipper.

Over in Visual Arts and Design, Michael Eble steps in from University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he was assistant dean of the College of Arts. His work delves into abstract topography and architecture, with exhibitions nationwide .

“Professor Michael Eble is a multi-faceted leader whose extensive experience spans administrative excellence,gallery curation and community advocacy,” Skipper noted.

Eble's leadership is set to enrich the curriculum, fostering an environment ripe for student growth and artistic exploration . He's held key roles at University of Minnesota Morris as department head and gallery curator.

Dr. Caroline E. Sawyer will lead Communication and Media Studies, coming from University of South Carolina Beaufort. She's got a doctorate in communication from University of Memphis and has secured nearly $1 million in project grants .
