TEHRAN, July 3 — Preparations underway for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's farewell have Iranian officials tightening security across capital. Expecting a massive influx of pilgrims,over 65,000 security personnel will keep order during events.
Starting early Friday,city will make big changes to public transportation. Metro,bus services will run nonstop till ceremonies end. Key transit stations near ceremony—Mosalla, Shahid Beheshti,Mirzaye Shirazi—will temporarily close. Free shuttle buses will help move attendees from other stations to main venue.
Major road closures planned along funeral route from Damavand Street to Azadi Square. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,other military units will patrol key roads to ensure safety.
With potential health issues looming,around 1,500 medical staff from Tehran ambulance service will be deployed,backed by 317 vehicles,300 motorcycles,six helicopters. Six field hospitals will be set up for attendees. And Iranian Red Crescent Society has organized over 67,000 volunteers to offer medical help,support for those traveling to capital.
Main ceremony kicked off 6:00 a.m. local time (2:30 a.m. GMT) Friday . From July 4-5,public can pay respects to Khamenei at Tehran Mosalla. After mourning procession in capital July 6,his body moves to Qom for more services July 7 . Final rites in his birthplace Mashhad on July 9. How will Iran manage this massive event…
