Telangana government is pushing hard to secure funds for kharif installment of Rythu Bharosa scheme, which helps farmers financially. Exact timeline for disbursement? Still unclear. But officials want payments to start soon. This round expected to help about 67 lakh farmers, covering roughly 1.35 crore acres. Earlier estimates were over 1.4 crore acres. Recent survey found over five lakh acres previously eligible aren't being farmed.
Urgency comes after opposition parties and some farmers slammed delays in Yasangi season payments. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met with Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and senior officials to tackle the issue and speed up payments.
But government’s strapped for cash. Revenue for early fiscal 2026-27 below expectations. April saw total revenue receipts of ₹22,392 crore, with ₹10,974 crore from direct revenue and ₹11,417 crore from borrowings and liabilities. Expenses high: ₹2,350 crore on interest payments,₹4,449 crore on salaries,₹1,893 crore on pensions, and ₹4,727 crore on subsidies, mostly for free power to agriculture .
Given tight finances,Telangana government likely to seek market borrowings soon to fund Rythu Bharosa and other key expenses…
