George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs,pushed youth entrepreneurship at an event at National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C). Speaking May 18,he highlighted PM VIKAS programme's role in empowering minority communities by boosting both entrepreneurship,technical skills.
Kurian noted the initiative has helped many women move into business ownership and gain technical qualifications. He stressed programme's inclusivity—aiming to uplift whole minority communities,not just students or professionals. His remarks came during signing of tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIT-C,Central University of Kerala,and Ministry of Minority Affairs.
At event, Kurian urged students at India's top technical institutions to rethink career paths. He acknowledged challenges in advanced fields like Internet of Things (IoT) and chip design,launched at IIIT Kottayam and IIT Palakkad,respectively. Minister's call was clear: shift from job seekers to job creators. He believes this mindset is critical in today's competitive world.
He encouraged young people to use government funding to start businesses from home,try innovative ideas, and scale ventures. “We need a generation that creates jobs,not just seeks them,” Kurian said,urging youth to embrace entrepreneurial spirit .
The MoU was signed by V.B. Sameer Kumar, Registrar of Central University of Kerala,Sunil Jacob John,Registrar of NIT-C,and Shah Faiz Ahmed, Under Secretary in Ministry of Minority Affairs. NIT-C Director Prasad Krishna and Central University of Kerala Vice-Chancellor Siddu P. Algur attended ceremony.
Under PM VIKAS initiative,NIT-C allocated training for 1,100 candidates in non-traditional fields. Courses include Marketing Manager (E-commerce),Process Instrument Technician (Oil and Gas), Supply Chain and Logistics Analyst,and Essentials of VLSI Design. Of these, 500 seats reserved for VLSI programme,while 200 seats designated for each of other courses. Central University of Kerala to train 400 candidates focused on women’s leadership,entrepreneurship .
