Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated new infrastructure facilities on Thursday aimed at non-leather companies within the SIPCOT complex located in Panapakkam village, Ranipet. The initiative, costing ₹95.05 crore, is expected to bolster investment in the region.
Officials from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) reported that newly opened facilities are designed to meet the needs of investors looking to establish manufacturing units . Collector Priya Ravichandran conducted inspection of facilities alongside TIDCO representatives.
The new SIPCOT complex is specifically tailored for companies involved in manufacturing and non-leather sectors. Project Officer P . Maheshwari stated that facilities are intended to attract more businesses to area, enhancing the local industrial landscape .
Among the notable additions are two plug-and-play buildings, constructed at a cost of ₹51.80 crore. These structures, covering 200,000 square feet, come equipped with essential services including water and power supply, fire safety systems, and office spaces . TIDCO officials emphasized that this plug-and-play model offers customized infrastructure, a shift from previous approach where only land was provided to companies.
Higher bidders will soon be allocated space within these new buildings, facilitating swift setup for incoming businesses. Alongside the manufacturing facilities, three-story administrative building was also inaugurated, spanning approximately 100,000 square feet and costing ₹26 crore. This new structure includes a conference hall and a canteen, further enhancing the complex's appeal.
In a move to support employee welfare, the complex now features a medical center and a childcare facility. These additions aim to create a conducive working environment for staff employed in new units.
The Panapakkam SIPCOT complex, which encompasses 1,200 acres and includes the villages of Agavalam, Thuraiyur,Nedumpuli, and Peruvalayam, gained prominence in the state's industrial sector following the establishment of a ₹9,000 crore car manufacturing plant by JLR and Tata Motors. This facility is projected to produce 250,000 vehicles annually over the next five to seven years, catering to both domestic and international markets.
Inaugurated in February, the car plant is expected to create around 5,000 jobs for local residents, with the potential to increase employment opportunities to 25,000 over next five years. TIDCO officials also revealed plans for ₹400 crore footwear manufacturing park within the remaining space of complex, which is anticipated to generate approximately 20,000 jobs, primarily for women.
This park aims to assist local leather manufacturers by reducing reliance on imported raw materials such as soles, heels, and synthetic materials from China, addressing logistical challenges in the process.
