Thursday morning,June 18,2026,Vizianagaram district finally saw downpour as southwest monsoon arrived . Rain started at 9:15 a.m. and continued until 11 a.m.,bringing relief to farmers and residents sweltering in near 40-degree heat earlier this month.
Temperature dropped sharply to 28 degrees Celsius — a welcome change from past two weeks when highs hovered between 34 and 36 degrees. Indian Meteorological Department says thunderstorms are likely,with cloudy skies and gusty winds expected in Visakhapatnam.
El Niño looms,but farmers here hope for decent rainfall. Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy has told local officials to kickstart relief measures for agriculture. It fits with government’s El Niño guidelines,which outline an action plan to offset negative impacts.
