World-renowned artist Werner Bronkhorst is set to unveil his latest exhibition,titled Big Balls, in Los Angeles from July 9 to July 12, coinciding with the excitement of the Football World Cup. showcase will take place at 8175 Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, featuring a collection of football-themed paintings that celebrate global passion for the sport.
With following of 7 million, Bronkhorst has gained recognition for his vibrant, hyper-realistic artworks that cleverly incorporate miniature figures hidden within layers of paint. His previous collection sold out in a mere 12 minutes, attracting 10,000 visitors within just three days,a testament to his growing influence in the contemporary art scene.
This exhibition marks Bronkhorst's first appearance in Los Angeles, where he will present a selection of never-before-seen pieces inspired by the spirit and energy of football. The event comes as the city prepares to host the World Cup, amplifying the excitement surrounding the tournament.
Among the highlights of exhibition is the centerpiece titled From Every Corner,which is Bronkhorst's largest work to date. This ambitious piece features depictions of star players from each participating country, including icons like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mohamed Salah, among 45 others. This artwork will be auctioned exclusively at PHILLIPS during their Modern and Contemporary Art Live Auction on July 16.
In a unique twist,Bronkhorst will also engage with the audience by completing a piece live during the exhibition, reinforcing his commitment to community-driven approach to art. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase other works from the collection, along with special merchandise .
“Just like creating a work of art, football requires patience,discipline,dedication, and practice,” Bronkhorst stated. “The beauty of the game isn’t found in the final result, but in the countless hours of effort, repetition, and commitment that happen behind the scenes.”
Bronkhorst,originally from South Africa and now based in Sydney,is known for his distinctive styles that blend hyper-realistic miniature figures with abstract sculptural backgrounds,as well as bold charcoal drawings layered with dense text. His artistic influences range from abstract expressionism to pop culture,drawing inspiration from notable figures such as Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning,Keith Haring,and René Magritte.
The exhibition will kick off with a press preview on July 8 from 6 PM to 7 PM,accessible by RSVP only. The public opening will follow from July 9 to July 12, with hours from 10 AM to 8 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
