The Yadavagiri Residents’ Association (YRA) convened its second community meeting on Sunday at Yadavagiri Park,focusing on a collaborative action plan aimed at enhancing the neighborhood. Residents outlined five primary goals: creating greener public spaces,improving park facilities, ensuring cleanliness and effective waste management, bolstering safety and security,and fostering greater civic engagement.
Among the attendees were Mahesh Jigani, Assistant Commissioner of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for Zone 4,and Sridevi,the Environmental Engineer responsible for Solid Waste Management. These officials listened to community concerns and engaged in discussions about actionable steps to tackle local issues.
A significant initiative discussed was the planting and ongoing care of trees along Chaluvamba Road and Vivekananda Road. The YRA proposed a unique approach where residents would adopt individual trees,taking responsibility for their maintenance. Volunteers will also be mobilized to assist with planting and protecting these trees. Additionally,the community plans to address safety by removing weak branches and conducting seasonal pruning.
Residents expressed a desire for enhanced recreational facilities, including a dedicated play area for children complete with swings,slides, and monkey bars . meeting also proposed the installation of benches and a safety gate at park's entrance. A detailed layout for the park will be developed,along with a comprehensive plan that includes maintenance,waste management,and security measures.
Responsible pet ownership was another topic of discussion,with an emphasis on keeping dogs leashed within the park. Bhamy V. Shenoy,a senior member of the Mysore Grahakara Parishat and YRA member, communicated to Regional Commissioner and MCC Administrator Nitesh Patil that the ongoing progress could lead to significant improvements in governance and reduction in corruption. He noted inspiring participation of youth and women,highlighting that the meeting was entirely organized by young residents .
Cleanliness emerged as shared responsibility among residents . The YRA stressed the importance of enforcing garbage disposal regulations and imposing fines on those who violate them. Residents will be encouraged to maintain cleanliness in front of their homes and collectively care for park's outer areas. To facilitate this, the association plans to install bins near seating areas and display prominent signs to remind residents of their responsibilities.
Concerns regarding safety were also raised,particularly following reports of attempted thefts in the area. Residents were urged to remain vigilant and consider using home CCTV cameras angled toward the road to enhance community surveillance . Additionally,the installation of surveillance cameras at Manjunathapura was proposed to deter illegal dumping.
The meeting concluded with a sense of optimism about the future of Yadavagiri . With active participation from the community, residents believe they can create a safer, cleaner,and more engaging environment for everyone.
