Integration of AI in medical sector offers big chance for change, boosting efficiency, affordability, accessibility. This view shared by gastroenterology expert D. Nageshwar Reddy during recent address at ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education on Friday. Reddy stressed AI as ally for doctors, not competitor, aiming to enhance diagnostics and patient management .
As head of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Reddy detailed AI’s impact across healthcare fields like telehealth, genomics, radiological imaging. He showed how AI slashed drug development timelines from years to just a few, optimistic about pharma advances in next decade.
“Doctors won’t be replaced by AI, but those using AI will outpace others,” Reddy argued, addressing reluctance some doctors feel towards these tools . He pointed to AI applications like robotic assistants for medical data and iSAVE platform for tracking health metrics, alerting clinicians as needed.
But Reddy also flagged growing challenge of fatty liver disease in India, suggesting AI could ease screening using basic clinical indicators, cutting down on costly diagnostics. He emphasized AI's role in improving clinical records and interpreting imaging results.
Responding, C. Rangarajan, Chancellor of ICFAI, acknowledged AI’s early stage in healthcare but said future implications are uncertain. He urged careful approach to AI in education, balancing potential benefits with limits…
