B. Raja Kumari,Inspector General of Police for Women and Child Safety Wing,announced Tuesday that women's and children's safety remains top priority for police in Andhra Pradesh. At press conference with Bapatla Superintendent of Police B. Umamaheswar,she laid out tech-driven initiatives to boost safety and victim support.
Notably,the Shakti App has 1.5 crore registrations and 164 Shakti Teams across 28 districts for rapid response — within eight minutes. Under ‘Operation Trace,’ police found 9,007 missing people,including 6,098 women and 2,909 girls,bringing them back to families.
Ms. Raja Kumari also pointed to ‘Operation Chinnari Thalli,’ counseling 2,171 victims under POCSO Act. Another push,‘Operation Dandayan,’ sped up legal process on crimes against women,with chargesheets in 60 days. Across state,5,119 sexual offender sheets opened,leading to 595 convictions,including 155 life sentences,four death penalties.
Mr. Umamaheswar said Bapatla district stands out in fighting crimes against women,children. District opened 311 sexual offender sheets,ran 4,539 awareness programs,and facilitated 1.05 lakh Shakti App downloads,getting 39 convictions under Operation Dandayan.
