India's top cricket authority,Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is reportedly considering a major shift in Indian Premier League (IPL) calendar. Aim: tackle environmental challenges impacting players and fans.
BCCI officials now exploring moving IPL to autumn months like September and October. Reason? The brutal heat of April and May leaves players and audiences drained.
This was clear during IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad . Temperatures soared to near 40°C,settling at 35°C with 55 percent humidity as game began. Players constantly wiping sweat, battling the intense conditions.
Most venues felt same harsh weather, except Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. Heat and humidity led to muscle cramps for many players. And storms, rain often interrupted matches, spoiling the event.
Sources say talks within BCCI need consensus before any formal proposal. After that, board might seek ICC approval for new schedule.
A senior IPL Governing Council member confirmed discussions are definitely happening. But will they follow through…?
