Ukraine's bid for EU membership got lift Wednesday . Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced Budapest and Kyiv struck deal on rights of Ukraine's Hungarian minority. This could open door for Ukraine's EU talks to start.
Speaking from Paris,Magyar said,"We have achieved a breakthrough in our talks with Ukraine about the language,cultural and educational rights of ethnic Hungarian minority."
The agreement marks a shift in a long-standing dispute that has strained ties between Budapest and Kyiv. Hungary's reluctance to back Ukraine's EU hopes was sticking point.
EU accession needs unanimous member approval. Process involves distinct policy chapters,organized in thematic groupings .
On Tuesday,Magyar signaled readiness to meet Ukrainian President Zelensky next week,if minority rights resolved. Magyar took office in April,ousting Moscow-friendly Viktor Orban.
