Just hours before a big showdown at Seattle Stadium, news broke about American forward Folarin Balogun's status. Belgium's national team filed appeal with FIFA, challenging the decision that cleared Balogun to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout round against Belgium on July 6.
This all started after a disciplinary ruling let Balogun back on field despite a red card from a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. That red card came after contact with defender Tarik Muharemovic, examined through video evidence. Belgium now wants FIFA to take another look.
This year’s World Cup,hosted by Canada,Mexico, and United States, has expanded to 48 teams, up from 32. Matches run from June 11 to July 19,spanning 16 cities across the three countries.
This appeal could shift things for both teams. Belgium aims to keep its tournament run alive, while the US counts on Balogun's talents. What FIFA decides here could ripple through rest of the tournament…
