Wednesday saw a new collection of stories by Russian author and filmmaker Vasily Shukshin debut in Malayalam,translated by writer Chandramathi. Released by Foundation Russkiy Mir, first copy went to actor and writer Madhupal.
Chandramathi stressed Shukshin’s tales echo the lives of everyday people. His knack for portraying dignity and struggles of ordinary villagers and workers made him key in Soviet 'Village Prose.' Shukshin’s work captures dreams of those society often ignores.
Madhupal lauded Shukshin for his unique realism, humor,and emotional depth in films. He said Shukshin's classic,The Red Snowball Tree,is still Soviet cinema icon, showcasing his talent for capturing human experience .
Ratheesh Nair, Honorary Consul of Russia in Thiruvananthapuram,also attended. A seminar,“Vasily Shukshin - Voice from Altai to World,” accompanied launch,delving into Shukshin’s influence on global literature. But how far will his influence reach…
