Residents of Chhattisgarh still sweltering as monsoon's arrival remains a mystery . India Meteorological Department says conditions aren't right for rain yet,leaving many wondering when relief will come .
Southwest monsoon hit Kerala on June 4. But Chhattisgarh waits. Normally,monsoon reaches state between June 12 and June 15 . This year,meteorologists can't say when it will arrive.
Temperatures in central Chhattisgarh now hover between 39°C and 41°C. Uncomfortable for everyone. Northern and eastern India saw good rains after monsoon started in Kerala. Central India,including Chhattisgarh,still dry.
Meteorologist Gayatri Kanchibhotla says specific criteria needed for monsoon to be active. Pre-monsoon conditions spotted last week. But surrounding areas like Vidarbha,Telangana,Odisha influence rainfall patterns too. Monsoon trough stretches from Hyderabad to northern Andhra Pradesh and coastal Odisha. Still,Chhattisgarh not ready for rain.
Forecast hints at thunderstorms,light to moderate rain soon in some areas. Sunday, Surajpur got most rain with 45 mm,followed by Jashpur and Balrampur with 15-16 mm.
Sporadic showers don't help much. Weather remains hot,humid. No big temperature changes expected next five days. Major cities saw highs of 42°C in Rajnandgaon,40°C in Raipur,41°C in Durg. Lows between 23.6°C and 27.9°C.
