A couple from Shanghai shows what real giving looks like. They poured their resources into helping kids with congenital heart disease. At recent charity event in city, their efforts stood out — they pressed on with donations despite tight finances.
Former teacher Du Yingrong, who died in 2018 at 81,and his wife Lu Suying, who passed away last year at 92,spent their lives supporting community causes. Both trained at same institution in Shanghai, they skipped personal luxuries to help those in need.
In 2018,Du learned of children needing heart surgeries during visit to Shanghai Yoda Cardiothoracic Hospital. Moved by urgency, they kicked off with 500,000 yuan donation for ten kids, then upped it to 4.5 million yuan more.
Despite warnings from charity worker to save some cash given their modest means,Du was firm. “We don’t have much time left. Our pensions and savings are enough; we don’t need large amounts.” This couple's legacy of giving continues to change lives…
