Wednesday saw a major demonstration at Maddilapalem Junction in Visakhapatnam,protesters demanding better rural employment support from government. Local trade union group organized the event,highlighting worries over changes to key employment programs.
Leading the rally,a union leader stressed that rural employment initiative from 2006 is crucial for countryside jobs. He slammed government's plan to replace it,saying they should improve it instead. Suggestions included upping guaranteed employment days to 200 annually and raising minimum wage to ₹600 daily.
Critics of new employment framework warned its funding split—40% state,60% central—could weaken services. Union rep said urban job guarantees are essential,slamming recent policy changes as harmful to rural,urban workers alike.
He also hit out at new labor laws,claiming recent reforms have gutted worker protections by merging many regulations into just four. Demonstrators threatened bigger protests with farmers,agricultural workers nationwide if ignored .
