After devastating earthquakes hit Venezuela, community in Doral, Florida, mobilized fast to send aid. Doral, home to largest group of Venezuelans in U.S.—over 40% of population—saw residents rally to support homeland.
Wednesday, members of Venezuelan diaspora collected essentials like drinking water. Simón Peña,a local resident, said,“I want to help as much as possible and do whatever little we can from here.” His words echo the anxiety of many with family unaccounted for after quakes.
Quakes hit a nation already struggling with economic and social chaos. Many in Doral fled Venezuela during turmoil under Nicolás Maduro since 2013. Others left during Hugo Chávez era.
As events unfold,Doral community stays committed to sending aid home. Strong solidarity among those who've left but still feel a deep connection. The resilience of Venezuelan diaspora is clear…but how long can they keep this up?
