Monday,Edappadi K. Palaniswami,AIADMK's general secretary,urged Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government to follow former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's example on Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). His call comes with Union government again proposing to sell its equity stake in NLC,a move opposed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
Palaniswami looked back to 2013 when Jayalalithaa pushed for state public sector units to buy part of NLC's shares as the Centre aimed to disinvest. State PSUs ended up buying 3.56% of equity then . He pointed out NLC's roots in 1950s, when locals from 23 villages gave up land on promise it would stay public .
Palaniswami urged Union government to rethink its privatization plans for NLC. He declared AIADMK would lead protests against privatization moves and support any related actions . The issue has become a rallying cry for the party,as it fights to protect what it sees as crucial for the state…
