Maros Sefcovic,EU's trade chief, stressed need for real solutions and “meaningful discussion” to tackle rising trade tensions with China. He spoke after meeting China's top trade negotiator,Li Chenggang,at OECD ministerial in Paris.
At Thursday's press conference,Sefcovic pressed urgency of crafting policy responses to non-market practices and overcapacity distorting global markets. No direct mention of China, but his words targeted its trade methods. “My goal is a practical,result-oriented approach to addressing our concerns, not escalation,” he said, pushing for a “meaningful and sustainable” path.
Plans underway for Europe and China teams to talk, aiming for tangible results. Sefcovic urged more high-level talks between Brussels and Beijing, suggesting they should match frequency of Beijing-Washington discussions .
