East Coast Coconut Farmers’ Association in Peravurani is pushing for coconut-based industrial park in Peravurani-Pattukottai area. In memo to Agriculture Minister R. Vinoth of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam,they laid out plans for market hall,godown,and drying yard,all costing ₹4.50 crore.
Farmers want state government to speed up funding. They also want dehusked coconuts bought through agriculture marketing committees,like in Kerala. Association sees Coconut Industrial Park,developed s and job creation in region.
Besides park,they asked for coastal saline research institute in Peravurani. This would tackle rising total dissolved solids in groundwater due to seawater intrusion . Other demands: allow toddy tapping,distribute coconut oil coconuts.
Association also called for extension of rejuvenation and replanting (RR) scheme and laying out of demonstration plots (LODP) scheme by Coconut Development Board across all districts.
