Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta) just launched new plan letting MBA students defer placements for entrepreneurial pursuits . Announced Saturday,this program gives budding entrepreneurs chance to focus on startups for a year without losing future job prospects.
Students choosing this route can dive into their projects but still join placement process next year if they want jobs later. This flexibility aims to spark innovation,self-discovery among students .
Prof. Alok Kumar Rai,Director of IIM-Calcutta, spoke on educational journey's impact at institute. He said,“Beyond acquiring knowledge and skills,it is an opportunity to cultivate leadership,integrity,and a sense of responsibility towards society.” He urged students to keep open minds,commit to excellence.
Event also drew notable figures like Ganesh Mohan, Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Asset Management Ltd., Prof . Bhaskar Chakrabarti,Dean of Academic Programmes, and Prof. Partha Priya Datta,Chairperson of MBA Programme. Incoming MBA class,63rd batch,includes 480 students — 67% male,33% female . They come from 22 states,two Union Territories,with backgrounds in engineering (54.7%),commerce (11.5%),science (10.27%),arts (10%). Plus,41% are freshers,59% have work experience.
Pranav Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises,confirmed Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme (AALP) will continue. Full scholarships for six top MBA students each year for next two years. And,200 bicycles donated to help students get around sprawling campus.
Institute plans orientation for new students,introducing them to Kolkata's rich history,culture . Visits to landmarks like Belur Math,Howrah Bridge,Vidyasagar Setu, Eden Gardens,Victoria Memorial on the agenda.
