Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron kicked off the ‘Bharat Innovates 2026’ conclave Sunday in Nice. A big step for India-France ties. The event drew top startups,innovators,venture capitalists from both countries and beyond,showcasing India's deep-tech and startup scene.
Upon arrival,Modi got a warm welcome from Macron. Hugs and handshakes exchanged before jumping into talks about their nations' partnership . This conclave serves as global stage for pushing innovation across sectors.
In his speech,Modi talked about innovation's power. “India,France have special partnership; it has connection, conviction,innovation, inspiration and shared vision.” He stressed India’s role not just as consumer but as contributor. “Innovation is in India’s DNA.”
Modi also said,“India is innovating for sustainable future; India is innovating for the world.” He pointed to young innovators tackling global challenges. A nod to the next generation .
Macron echoed Modi's views,respecting India's 'Make-in-India' push and noting France's role in many sectors. He spoke of real partnership,especially in AI and climate change. Macron saw room to grow cooperation in civil nuclear energy,like in Small Modular Reactors.
Before conclave started,Modi met with top venture capitalists and investors,including Ritesh Agarwal,CEO of OYO Rooms,and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala. Talks aimed at boosting ties in innovation,and pulling investment into India.
With Modi were Piyush Goyal,Minister of Commerce and Industries,and Ajay Kumar Sood,Principal Scientific Advisor. They joined discussions with industry leaders. The event underscores India’s rising clout in global innovation and shows teamwork between India and France…but where will it lead?
