Iran appeared to have secured crucial victory when Shojae Khalilzadeh scored a stoppage-time goal, but VAR review disallowed it due to a marginal offside call. This decision added to frustrations of a World Cup campaign marked by logistical challenges and political tensions, as the team had to relocate its training camp from Tucson, Arizona,to Tijuana,Mexico,amid ongoing conflict in the region.
Coach Amir Ghalenoei expressed deep dissatisfaction with the treatment his team received, urging FIFA President Gianni Infantino to take a stand against the host nation, the United States. “It was the host that wasn’t very good to us,” he said. “I urge FIFA to not let the hosts treat teams and players the same way in the future.”

Ghalenoei lamented impact of these challenges on the team's ability to train and recover. “What these young people, these players have done,it should be written in history because the host country treated us very unfairly,” he stated. He emphasized that despite the obstacles, team performed admirably,and he hoped the world would recognize their achievements.
