Tangella Uday Srinivas, the Kakinada MP from the Jana Sena Party, confirmed on Saturday that the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) in Uppada is set to commence academic activities by August. This announcement follows his recent inspection of the ongoing construction at the site, where significant progress has been made .
The SIHM campus, covering five acres,is being developed with a budget of ₹12 crore allocated by the Ministry of Tourism. This initiative aims to provide hotel management courses to help tackle youth unemployment in Andhra Pradesh. Currently, the construction includes administrative buildings, academic blocks, hostels, and laboratory facilities, with reports indicating that approximately 95% of the work is complete .
However, delays have plagued the project, primarily due to insufficient funding from central government between 2019 and 2024. To facilitate further development,Srinivas has requested an additional ₹2 crore from Ministry of Tourism specifically for road infrastructure on the campus.
The establishment of SIHM is anticipated to enhance educational opportunities in the region, equipping students with skills necessary for the hospitality industry. As the project nears completion, local officials and stakeholders remain optimistic about its potential impact on employment and training for young people in the area.
