Kerala Cabinet greenlit a new plan for free bus rides for women and transgender individuals on ordinary KSRTC services,starting June 15. Chief Minister V.D . Satheesan announced this at a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting. scheme,called ‘Priyadarshini’, ties back to UDF's campaign promises from recent Assembly elections.

Women of all ages,irrespective of financial status,can ride free. But initially, only on ordinary bus services. This rollout will add ₹750-₹800 crore annually to KSRTC's expenses. State government will cover this,alongside ₹1,500 crore it already gives transport corporation each year.

Satheesan urged KSRTC to boost revenue in next six months. Suggestions include more vehicles,expanded schedules,better advertising. He stressed need for regular reviews,with monthly checks to tackle any issues that pop up.
