Recently, ceremony honored Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV's lasting impact on region's history. Organized by Department of Kannada and Culture, district administration, Mysuru City Corporation,and Jayanti Celebration Committee, it celebrated monarch's contributions to the former princely state .
At event,Mysuru and Kodagu's parliamentary representative urged citizens to foster community spirit and mutual respect. Royal family descendant stressed monarch's principles still matter today,encouraging public to delve into ruler's work . Local legislator highlighted Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV's role in Karnataka's progress, saying building a developed Karnataka like "Golden Mysore" would be best tribute.
Siddaswamy, retired principal and author, noted Maharaja's honorary doctorate from Banaras Hindu University. He explained how Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV expanded Representative Assembly by establishing Legislative Council in 1907. Siddaswamy suggested making Maharaja's birth anniversary wider celebration across Mysuru and Karnataka .
MLC C.N. Manjegowda spoke on Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV's dedication to women's empowerment . He recounted the building of Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam, massive project requiring ruler's determination and sacrifice to overcome financial hurdles. Cauvery waters still benefit Mysuru and Mandya,thanks to efforts of Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV and M. Visvesvaraya,Mr . Manjegowda noted.
Beyond infrastructure, legislator praised monarch's humility,noting Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV launched major projects without taking personal credit. Instead, he credited visionaries like M . Visvesvaraya. City celebrations included a procession with cultural troupes and folk artists, adding color to the event.
The "Rajarshi Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Awards for the year 2026" went to 29 achievers. Among them, Laiqh A. Khan, city editor for The Hindu,Mysuru, and three other journalists. Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy and other officials attended. But what about future generations? Will they remember…
