The alleged misappropriation of funds at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has sparked outrage, with temple construction committee chairperson Nripendra Misra expressing feelings of humiliation over the incident. Speaking to reporters on Saturday,Misra described the situation as a disgrace and emphasized the need for improved management practices to prevent future occurrences of such alleged thefts.
Misra's comments came ahead of the second day of committee meeting focused on addressing the scandal . He stated, "This matter now concerns the management of the temple, and it is certain that improvements will be made to prevent a recurrence of this alleged donation theft." His remarks reflect a growing concern within the temple's administration regarding the integrity of its financial practices.
In response to crisis,Misra has advocated for the appointment of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the temple Trust, a move he believes is essential for restoring public confidence. A high-level committee, led by a retired judge, has been formed to identify a suitable candidate for the role. Misra noted that this committee will present its recommendations to Trust, which will ultimately make the final decision.
The scandal has already led to significant changes within the temple Trust, including the resignations of general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra. The Trust is set to reconvene on July 22 to discuss the situation further, although Misra indicated he was not aware of the specific agenda for that meeting.
As the controversy unfolds, political pressure is mounting. The opposition Congress party has intensified its scrutiny of the government's handling of the situation, holding multiple press conferences to demand accountability. Misra's comments come amid calls for Prime Minister Modi to take responsibility for the alleged misappropriation.
Despite the turmoil,Misra provided updates on the temple's construction progress. He reported that the transformation of the old temple into a memorial is nearing completion, with only the installation of a continuous flame remaining. He also mentioned that the main memorial structure is expected to be finalized by the end of the project, with completion anticipated by July 30.
In addition to the main temple, several other projects are in the pipeline. Misra revealed plans for a 4-kilometer boundary wall and an auditorium outside the temple complex, which are projected to be completed by November or December . The ongoing construction efforts reflect a commitment to the temple's development, even as the Trust grapples with the fallout from the alleged embezzlement .
As the situation develops, the temple Trust faces the dual challenge of addressing financial integrity while continuing its ambitious construction plans. The outcome of the upcoming meeting and the recommendations from the high-level committee will likely play a crucial role in shaping future of the Ram Temple's administration .
