Southern Railway rolling out special trains for Onam season . Plan to ease travel for crowds heading to and from Kerala. It's all about handling the rush during the vibrant festival.
One of the new services,Train No. 06119,the Chennai – Kollam Weekly Express Special, will leave MGR Chennai Central at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesdays,on August 12, 19,26, and September 2. Arrives at Kollam Junction next morning at 7:20 a.m. Return trip from Kollam at 10:40 a.m. on Thursdays,same dates,reaching Chennai by 3:30 a.m . Friday .
Then there's Train No. 06110,from Thiruvananthapuram Central to Tambaram. Departs at 3:45 p.m. Wednesdays, same schedule as Kollam train,arrives Tambaram 10:00 a.m. next day. Heads back from Tambaram 2:00 p.m. Thursdays, reaches Thiruvananthapuram 7:15 a.m. next day .
Also running is the Mangaluru Central – Chennai Egmore Special (Train No. 06126) on Mondays, leaving Mangaluru Central 4:00 p.m . July 13,20, 27,August 3,10,17,24, 31. Gets to Chennai Egmore by 10:55 a.m. next day. Return from Chennai Egmore 2:00 p.m. Tuesdays, same schedule,reaches Mangaluru Central 8:40 a.m. next day.
For those traveling from Thiruvananthapuram North to Mangaluru Junction, Weekly Special (Train No. 06093) departs 9:00 a.m. August 12, 19,26, September 2,arriving Mangaluru Junction 9:00 p.m. Return from Mangaluru Junction 3:15 p.m. Thursdays, reaches Thiruvananthapuram Central 5:30 a.m. next day.
Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Kollam Bi-Weekly Express Special (Train No. 06117) will also run, departing Chennai 11:50 p.m. August 13,15, 20,22, 27, 29, September 3,5. Arrives Kollam 4:20 p.m . next day. Return leaves Kollam 6:45 p.m. Fridays and Sundays,similar timings.
And there's the Ernakulam Junction – SMVT Bengaluru Weekly Express Special (Train No. 06147) leaving Ernakulam 11:10 p.m. Sundays,reaching Bengaluru 12:45 p.m . next day . Returns from Bengaluru 4:00 p.m. Mondays, back in Ernakulam 5:45 a.m. next day.
