Over 2,500 people,mostly farmers and locals,crowded into the vegetable and seeds festival at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) on Sunday. Run by Isha Yoga Center,it became a lively gathering spot for seed conservators,natural farmers,agricultural scientists and urban growers. All drawn to traditional seeds and chemical-free farming.
Shankar Viswanathan,vice-president of VIT,led event,which boasted an exhibition of over 100 stalls. Visitors browsed more than 2,000 rare seed varieties,tubers and natural farm products from all over India. It was a showcase of agricultural diversity. Also hub for exchanging knowledge,with expert talks adding depth for attendees.
Highlight of the day: Seed Conservator Awards-2026 went to nine farmers across six states. Celebrating their efforts to save traditional seeds.
