Aiming to boost urban ecology,Andhra Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan opened 18 ‘Nagara Vanams’—urban forests—on Wednesday. This project, costing ₹36 crore, kicked off virtually from his camp office. Kalyan stressed how crucial these green spaces are for recreation and wellness,especially with cities growing fast .
“Development should not come at cost of nature,” Kalyan said, pushing for “green lung spaces” so citizens can breathe fresh air and connect with nature . He pointed out these urban forests' key role in keeping ecological balance amid urban sprawl.
Funding for Nagara Vanams came from both state and Central government’s Nagara Vana Yojana. Kalyan also mentioned new red sanders conservation parks in places like Koduru,Kailasagiri,and Madanapalle. To honor India's cultural heritage and biodiversity, state is developing ‘Nakshatra Vanams’ (star forests) and ‘Rasi Vanams’ (zodiac forests).
