John McGinn,Aston Villa captain,clinched it with a deflected shot before half-hour mark. This win puts Scotland atop Group C and snaps a 30-year drought at major tournaments,last win at Euro 96.

Haiti,ranked 84th,was no easy challenge . Scotland knew points were crucial before tougher opponents. Next match against Morocco on Friday at same stadium,then Brazil in Miami .

Scotland broke through in 28th minute. Che Adams drew defenders, Gannon-Doak set up McGinn for goal. Scots couldn't widen lead as Haiti pressed late. French-born Ruben Providence a constant threat on wing,Frantzdy Pierrot nearly equalized with header in 85th minute.
