Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India,is optimistic about USTR Jamieson Greer's upcoming visit to New Delhi. Greer will meet Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal to push talks on a bilateral trade deal.
On X, Gor shared excitement for Greer's arrival, noting multiple sessions set to accelerate the U.S.-India trade deal. Talks will cover the United States-India Joint Statement and an Interim Agreement, key parts of negotiations started by Donald Trump and Narendra Modi back in February 2025.
Gor's comments come as Greer's visit prep ramps up,following a notable Modi-Trump meeting at the G7 summit in Evian, France. The leaders stressed speeding up the trade deal,showing a shared goal to boost economic ties.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently said the interim trade pact is close to done. After the G7 summit, he mentioned both sides have made big strides, highlighting Greer's visit as key to moving talks forward . Misri said, “With the United States,we have made significant progress already on the conclusion of interim free trade bilateral trade agreement.”
Misri also spoke on urgency, pointing out that Modi and Trump's meeting put pressure on wrapping up the deal fast. “Next week, in fact,the United States trade representative Mr. Jamieson Greer will be visiting India to take forward these discussions,” he added.
After India, Greer heads to Tashkent,Uzbekistan,to meet President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Head of the Presidential Administration Saida Mirziyoyeva,and Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev. These talks aim to build fair trade relations with U.S .
