Shivamogga district administration ran extensive mock drill Friday at Nehru Stadium. Aim: test readiness for emergencies,boost public awareness on safety during aerial attacks. Union Home Ministry required exercise. Over 300 personnel involved — police,home guards,NCC,fire services,health,revenue.
A two-minute siren kicked off drill, simulating aerial attack. Responders evacuated people from “attack” zone,rescued those under fake collapsed structures. Ambulances ready to take “injured” to hospitals. Bomb disposal,crime scene teams deployed too.
Second scenario: simulated bus hijacking by armed militants. Police quickly cordoned area, breached bus,caught assailants. All hostages evacuated safely.
Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalakatti supervised drill,stressed its role in boosting public confidence, improving emergency response. Said, “All departments must coordinate effectively to handle such situations.”
