Stellantis NV is recalling over 1 million Jeep vehicles in U.S. due to electrical issue posing fire risk. Owners told to park outside,away from other cars until repairs done . Problem can cause fires even when ignition off.
Recall targets more than 787,000 Jeep Wranglers,about 289,000 Gladiators from 2021 to 2025 model years . U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents show issue stems from potential overheating in wiring connected to electric hydraulic power steering pump.
In statement Tuesday,Stellantis said recall was “out of abundance of caution.” The automaker pushing to get remedy ready by July .
Stellantis started investigation into overheating in 2023,closed it due to low incidence rate. But NHTSA launched separate probe in 2024,leading to further scrutiny. Company reported one injury possibly linked to defect but no accidents.
Besides Jeep recall,Stellantis tackling another safety issue with 17,000 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrids. Recall involves battery pack problem that could spark fire. Company advises against recharging until fixed,noting risk drops when battery depleted .
