Hong Kong's planned university town will set aside land for future social and tech advances,says Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin. Announcement comes after word that project might grow to 300 hectares (741 acres).
Choi told Legislative Council Wednesday the town will have Hong Kong's unique traits while boosting national integration. Part of Northern Metropolis megaproject aiming to transform 30,000 hectares into key economic and housing hub.
Working group for university town already visited science and tech parks in mainland China,South Korea,Germany,Switzerland from March to May. Trips aimed at gathering development insights. Choi said,“When referencing overseas experiences,we must take into account Hong Kong’s own strengths and unique characteristics.”
She added that lessons learned would be tailored to local needs,creating a modern university town reflecting Hong Kong's essence while serving national interests. The project seeks to make region an innovation and education hub…but how it unfolds remains to be seen.
