Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has named J.B. Srinivas as convenor for Tirupati Assembly constituency. It's a big move in region once a stronghold. This follows long uncertainty over candidate choice, especially after K. Chiranjeevi and his Praja Rajyam party shook up TDP's plans in recent years.
Tirupati, once a TDP bastion, saw influence slip over last 20 years. NT Rama Rao,the party's founder, won there in 1983. For two decades,TDP held firm. But recent challenges forced more cautious candidate picks.
By appointing Srinivas well before elections,TDP aims to cement grassroots ties and show party members their likely candidate. Srinivas,a Balija community member, has backed TDP for 15 years. Known for strong activism against past YSRCP government.
At 50,Srinivas's role marks a generational shift. Past TDP candidates here averaged 60-plus,with figures like Galla Arunakumari and Chadalawada Krishnamurthy. But younger faces like Pulivarthi Nani at 54 and Bojjala Sudheer Reddy at 46 have emerged . A strategic turn under Nara Lokesh, the party's working president.
TDP also grooming younger leaders like A. Ravi Naidu,38,and C. Divakar Reddy,43,for future roles. This youth focus could help TDP regain its past strength in Tirupati . But will it be enough…
