Thousands packed into Ngong Shuen Chau Barracks in Hong Kong Saturday,celebrating upcoming 29th anniversary of city’s return to Chinese rule. People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison opened gates at 9 a.m.,drawing eager visitors — families,students,older citizens.
Jennifer Shao Xia,with her 16-year-old son Harry Wang Haorui,was among them . Shao,who works at Hong Kong Airlines,was excited. Her first time at military base since moving to city in 2024. She wanted her son to feel national pride. “Our country is great. We want to visit barracks to experience and learn more about the military and its achievements,” she said,noting her family's military ties.
Event wasn't just a celebration. It was patriotic education too . Government's push to build national pride here . Visitors seemed eager to connect with military’s role in region's past and future.
Barracks buzzed with activity,offering community a rare chance to engage with PLA and understand its role in Hong Kong. But how much this will resonate…
