Police in Alwal have arrested three people accused of scamming nearly 100 families with fake promises of government housing . The suspects were caught June 24, after a complaint led to discovery of 79 forged allotment certificates and three mobile phones tied to the scheme.
The trio includes Timmiri Gopinath Pushpalatha, 54, her son Timmiri Gopinath Vishal, 21,and Mahender Singh,45,who owns a photocopy center in Trimulgherry. They allegedly took between ₹50,000 and ₹1 lakh from victims,claiming they could secure housing under government’s 2-BHK scheme .
Pushpalatha pretended to be a senior GHMC official, convincing applicants she could get their housing approved. The group handed out fake allotment certificates,tricking victims into thinking their applications were successful. Some waited almost three years before realizing they’d been duped .
The case was registered at Alwal police station May 20 after Gogikar Prasad filed a complaint. Investigators found Pushpalatha and Vishal were key in creating the fake documents, while Singh printed them at his shop.
Authorities still hunting for main suspect Jayaraj Gangadharan, and accomplices Nisha Raj and Chintu Raj,who are missing. Police urge public to be wary and verify claims of government benefits, including housing and job offers, before paying…
