Telangana's government has asked Centre for more urea to tackle urgent shortfall before Kharif season . Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao wrote to Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda outlining gaps between planned and actual urea deliveries for April,May 2026.
In April,Telangana was supposed to get two lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea but received just 1.53 LMT. A shortfall of 0.47 LMT . May wasn't better — needed two LMT, got 1.67 LMT. This gap is making it hard to stockpile before peak farming season hits.
State government now wants Centre to tell fertilizer importers like NBCL,IPL,KRIBHCO to make up for April's deficit. Specifically,Telangana seeks extra 0.47 LMT of urea in June to cover previous gaps.
With expected spike in demand due to more paddy, maize, cotton cultivation, state's scrambling to ensure farmers have what they need. But will supplies come through in time…?
