Avikkal Thodu, an urban canal,has been choked by pollution from untreated sewage and waste . This neglect's raised health and environmental alarms among locals. K. Jayanth, MLA for Kozhikode North, promised canal will be properly slab-covered and surrounding area turned into recreational space.

Thousands of fisherfolk depend on Vellayil Fishing Harbour,now outdated and lacking basics. Jayanth stressed modernization need,saying, “The renovated harbour will have all essential amenities,including restrooms.” He also mentioned tapping MLA fund if initial funds fall short .

Plans for harbour include extending breakwater, jetty,building storage facilities . Soufiya N.P.,councillor for Vellayil division, stressed need for basic facilities like drinking water at harbour.

Local business community supports these moves. A.P. Abdullakutty, president of Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry, urged strategic use of funds to modernize facility. He suggested upgrading harbour’s infrastructure,sanitation,marketing,and even a children’s museum on fishing to draw tourists.

Renovation of Lions Park also nearing finish under Kozhikode Corporation’s watch. Jayanth noted these projects together could boost beach area,benefiting locals. But will funds stretch far enough…?
