In recent interview, actor Akshay Kumar slipped up, forgetting names of lead actors in hit film Saiyaara. It's been a sensation since release. While talking about film's success,he called stars Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda just "the new boy and new girl," sparking laughter and surprise.
Kumar tackled notion that only big spectacles or star-studded films score at box office. He pointed to Saiyaara as proof otherwise, saying film's success often lies in emotional impact, not scale. "If it is in the destiny of the film,it runs successfully one way or the other," he said, reflecting on cinema's unpredictable nature.
During chat,he fumbled with film's title and stars' names. After a pause,he asked, "Recently, film came out with the new boy and new girl, what was that film?" Director Ahmed Khan, who's worked with Kumar before, reminded him of its name. Kumar then said,"Yes, Saiyaara. Which event did film have? I want to ask, what event did the film have? There was no event. It's just that its songs worked, and the romance in the film worked. That caught on." He seems to think film's success is mix of luck and its romantic storyline's execution.
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film's smashed box office records, becoming third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. It's now highest-grossing Indian romantic film ever. Kumar's comments underline film's emotional connection with viewers, which he sees as key to triumph.
Despite forgetting actors' names,Kumar's take on film's charm resonates with many in industry. Saiyaara might be loosely based on 2004 South Korean film A Moment to Remember, but its unique touch has clearly struck a chord. Sometimes,it's not about star power…but where does that leave us?
