SS Rajamouli has put rumors to rest: his much-anticipated film, Varanasi, won't be split into two parts. The action-adventure,featuring stars like Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is a standalone feature, according to the director .
On break from filming,Rajamouli shared insights during a masterclass at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. He talked up the film's grand scale: "You'll feel cold of Antarctica. gods of Ramayana, natural disasters, fantastic elements. But at core,it's about a father and son." Blending mythology with emotion for a fresh experience.
Asked if Varanasi could become a franchise,Rajamouli was direct: "One film. Yes, one film." This sparked reactions online. Fans are excited, skeptical. One said, "This is going to be peak. End the multi-part movies," while another suggested, "Make it 4-hour film with no cuts." But some remain doubtful: "I still feel this is a two-part film . Three hours doesn't feel enough for all that we saw in the teaser."
Written by Vijayendra Prasad, Varanasi marks Rajamouli's first major project since RRR's global success. The film promises a fusion of Indian mythology with sci-fi,including time travel,in a sweeping narrative. And it's Priyanka Chopra's return to Indian cinema after eight years away.
Earlier announcements said Mahesh Babu will play Lord Rama in a key sequence. Vijayendra Prasad teased a big battle scene: "It's a war between Rama and Kumbhakarna. You saw in the trailer, right? Rama,Kumbhakarna. Lord Hanuman's tail,a chariot on it. I'm talking about that... spellbound." With major action scenes done, filming wraps by October .
Fans are eager for the film's release, set for April 2027. Excitement for Varanasi builds as Rajamouli's vision unfolds, promising spectacle and emotion. But will it meet expectations…?
