In bid to boost regional connectivity,Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar urged central government to green-light Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) linking Bengaluru with neighboring cities Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kolar. This pitch came during Wednesday meeting with Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi.
Among infrastructure plans, Shivakumar pushed for Bengaluru Metro Phase IIIA project — a 37.804-km line from Sarjapur to Hebbal. Cost? ₹25,999 crore. Revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) hit the Centre's desk on April 29,2026, after tweaks from Union government's feedback .
State also wants green light for revised Metro Phase II budget. Originally set in 2014 at ₹26,405.14 crore,now ballooned to ₹40,425.02 crore. Proposals include Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) starting work on 44.65-km double-decker elevated corridor under Metro Phase III . Cost pegged at ₹9,700 crore,all funded by Karnataka government.
