Advocacy for Enhanced Political Representation of Backward Classes in Andhra Pradesh
In Andhra Pradesh,a push is gaining ground for boosting political representation for Backward Classes (BCs) . At a recent assembly,Burli Seetham Naidu, state general secretary for National Backward Classes Association, urged political factions to align local elections with BC demographics in their regions.
Naidu detailed an upcoming gathering in Visakhapatnam. It's set to tackle big issues on BC representation . Talks will cover more seats in Parliament and state assemblies, plus national reservation policies for Other Backward Classes. Heavyweights like national president R. Krishnaiah and state president Madduluru Subhash Yadav are expected to advocate directly for these changes.
Naidu stressed need for accurate population data, pushing for a BC-specific census. He claims BCs make up more than 70% of Andhra Pradesh's population. And he called on Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, chairman of BC Dedicated Commission,to support political reservations for all 138 communities recognized as BCs in state.
New committees are forming in Vizianagaram district and other constituencies, Naidu announced. These groups aim to unify BC voices across Andhra Pradesh. They want more influence in politics. But will it be enough to shift the balance…?
