Charles Leclerc snagged his first win of 2026 Formula 1 season Sunday, delivering Ferrari its historic 250th Grand Prix victory at British Grand Prix in Silverstone. Race ended under safety car. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli finished outside top 10. Big shake-up in title race.
Ninth career win for Leclerc,first since U.S. Grand Prix in October 2024. Relief and joy on the radio: “Finally, this one feels particularly good. I wish for bit more normal ending. Hard work paid off,hard times never last, only tough people last.”
Race had Antonelli starting from pole,but Ferraris quickly took lead. He tried to fight back but hit mechanical issues lap 42. Reported problem,forced to pit. Team removed brake cooling inlet . Couldn't regain speed. Finished 16th after five-second penalty for false start.
Meanwhile,George Russell,Antonelli's Mercedes teammate and title rival,took second. Lewis Hamilton,in other Ferrari, rounded out podium in third. Hamilton, nine-time Silverstone winner,faced scrutiny for yellow flag infringement. Already had penalty earlier.
Antonelli still leads championship with 179 points, 25 points clear of Russell . Hamilton sits third,just seven points off Russell. Drama peaked when Max Verstappen, running third,lost control. Crashed Red Bull into gravel lap 48. No podium for him.
